The Power of Persuasion

The ability to be persuasive in any profession is important and with Martial Arts it is no different. There are many ingredients that go into developing one’s “Persuasion Power”. I feel the three most important elements are: Likability, Enthusiasm, and Trust.
Likability – It is hard to say why we are prone to like certain people more than others. With that said, however, there are certain things within our control that can make us generally more likable. Primarily, you can build rapport and be more likable by being approachable and sincerely interested in the other person.
Enthusiasm – Remember; enthusiasm isn’t taught, it’s caught. If you are sincerely enthusiastic about Martial Arts and teaching Martial Arts, it will shine through in your conversation.
Trust – It is hard to go into a relationship with someone you don’t trust. In our industry, trust starts with professionalism. A clean and professional- looking school and well-groomed, professional-looking, and articulate staff members are the first steps to developing trust.
The power of persuasion not only allows you to encourage more students to enroll at your school, but it also helps you to encourage your students to continue when they start to lose interest.
One last thought, the human mind is easily influenced by anything spoken with conviction. Make sure to let your passion and conviction comes through in all that you say and do, and your power of persuasion will be taken to a whole new level.
